HP Printer Printing Slow? You Need These Fixes!

HP printers are versatile devices that give high-speed printing performance. But sometimes, you may encounter printing problems, such as slow printing. Many HP community help forums often get recurring complaints about this issue. When you find the HP printer printing slow, it can be because of multiple reasons.

The most common ones include outdated drivers, faulty connections, and paper jams. If you’ve set the printing preference to maximum DPI, you may face this performance issue. It is natural to feel frustrated when a quality printer from HP takes a long time to print.

This article will give you ways to troubleshoot this problem.

Troubleshoot HP Printer Printing Slowly

Thankfully, there are various easy fixes for this common problem. Let’s understand them one by one.

Check the toner and paper tray.

Less ink in the cartridges will undoubtedly delay prints. Similarly, an empty paper tray will also hinder the printer from giving output quickly. So, it is best to check the levels of ink in the cartridge.

Many HP printers come with a display panel on which you can find the toner level indicator. Other options like Ink Levels, Ink Cartridge, and Ink Drop are also handy for assessing the ink levels.

Reinstall HP printer drivers

Corrupt printer drivers can lead to the HP printer slow printing problem. Reinstalling the drivers will fix slow printing.

  1. Type ‘device’ after tapping the Windows ‘Start’ button.
  2. Choose the ‘Device Manager’ option.
  3. Here, right-click on your HP printer and choose to uninstall it.
  4. Hit the ‘Uninstall’ button on the dialog box that prompts it.
  5. After that, hit the ‘Scan’ option.
  6. Your Windows system will find a compatible HP driver.
  7. It will also install on your system.
  8. Give a test print command after the new drivers are installed.

Reset your printer

A printer reset is an easy way to fix printing issues like slow output. To reset the printer, just disconnect its power cable and unplug it. Now, after a minute, plug the cable back into its source. Connect the cable to your printer and see if you still face the problem.

It may also be possible that your current cable is faulty. So if you cannot get the issue resolved by resetting the printer, use another cable.

Modify printer preferences

If your printing preferences are set to best quality or maximum DPI, it can cause slow printing. Besides that, you can also try printing with regular paper in ‘Normal’ quality for quicker prints. Here’s how to modify printer preferences.

  1. Look for ‘printers’ after hitting the Windows Start button.
  2. Tap its result.
  3. Now choose ‘Printers and Scanners.’
  4. Tap your HP printer and click the ‘Manage’ button.
  5. Now tap ‘Printer Preferences’ and choose the ‘Paper Quality’ tab.
  6. Choose ‘Plain Paper’ in the Paper Type field.
  7. Modify the print quality. Select the ‘Normal’ mode.
  8. Hit ‘OK’ to save the changes.
  9. Now give a test print.

Use the HP Smart app to disable the Quiet mode.

The Quiet mode can also be a cause of the HP printer slow printing. Use the HP Smart app to turn it off.

  1. Open the app.
  2. Tap on your printer and hit ‘Advanced Settings.’
  3. Then choose ‘Settings.’
  4. Click ‘Off’ in the Quiet Mode tab.
  5. Tap ‘Save’ and try printing.
